Week of Insanity

For this week, I have to say - will someone please turn the insane off, the faucet is leaking. Between call backs, the approaching deadline for Nightmare Through Memory Lane, chasing commissions and working on those we already have, we have been on-the-go all week. I've seen more of the area by car in the last few days than in the last two months.

Crow has two commissions pending and I just finished one (thank you Patrick and the love of magnets). Crow  is still working on the Snats for our Official Snat Sponsor (Rascal), and Judy's Flag City in Belmont would like twelve beaded flags to insure she has stock for up-coming September 11th. It has been a mad house here.

A great week all told. To put the second cherry on the cake of Amazing, less than an hour ago Tina (Mountain View General Store's owner) sold Horse's "Bluebells" scarf, and the buyer asked for another one to be made. She will be bringing in the materials on Tuesday next. Needless to say, Horse is thrilled.

Crow and I were cast in a web series called 'Shores of Oblivion'. The over-all plot has finally been revealed to the cast. It promises to be quite interesting. Other than that, I will only say this:

And now we rest on the Shores of Oblivion, our hopeful faces searching for the answers of 'How' and 'Who' and 'Why' and of course... what is going on? These answers and more will be revealed when the web series begins. For now, you will have to be content with our incoming stock and tantalizing peaks.

Thursday Night Live - The End

Last night marked the third and final Thursday Night Live! for the summer For anyone who missed it, the fair highlighting the businesses and farmer's markets of Mountain View. Two live bands performed each week and there was an antique car show. A fun night for dates or family time.

Yesterday, as Crow and I were walking into town, we were confronted at a crosswalk by an army truck. With wheels larger than the average person, this vehicle was meant to be on a battlefield not on a city street. The machine gun mountain in the back supported that theory. For a moment, I thought the town was being invaded, or perhaps the country - zombie apocalypse come at last? We waited until the monstrosity drove by, heading west as it turned right onto Castro street. Less than a block later, it parked - the first of the antique vehicles to line up for the show! It seemed that even our local military came to support Mountain View!

Last night's Thursday Night Live! also included an author signing for a local author who wrote a book on the history of Mountain View. The turn out was unexpectedly impressive. Tina believes I should get in on the book signing action, and intends to set up some kind of event for us. Stay tuned for future news on the event!

The Coyote Blessing's crew had reason to celebrate too. Horse made her first sale! A frantic girl attempted to buy everything she saw at the General Store's booth. She scrambled with her money, desperate to purchase a piece of jewelry, the snake candle holder, a ponytail holder or anything - it seemed as though her life depended on it. Her mother apologized "She can't keep any money in her wallet. My other daughter is the opposite. She refuses to spend her money on anything."

When she saw the small bags of neatly bundled wool, she withdrew from her purse a half-finished potholder, or perhaps it was a cap ... hard to tell at the current stage. The pride in her work was obvious by her great smile. "I made this, I can knit things too." I told her it was the raw thread used for knitting. Whether via that exchange or her mother's soft but urgent 'hurry up honeys', the girl decided on the wool. Alas, she did not have enough money. She bemoaned the fact ("I want this!" "You don't have the money." "But... this, this is what I want!"). Her mother almost triumphed in her desire to leave and find food ("Everyone is hungry, dear.")

However, so long did the girl and her mother linger at our display, the rest of the family came over. The father, a sour expression on his countenance, withdrew two bills from his pocket and thrust them at me. He addressed me and his daughter in one breath. "How much is it, ten? Here. Sorry about that. C'mon, we're all hungry." As soon as money exchanged hands, he turned away. His daughter grabbed the tiny bag and hurried off with her family, clutching her new prize as she muttered, "I am going to make a grand blanket from this."

Store Update and Introductions

Our weekly update starts with the good news of selling Crow's other painting "Weird is Good!" One of our 'big ticket' items, 'Weird is Good' has been on Mountain View General Store's wall for a few months. Crow created this piece in one sitting. It is a great way to start August! It was one of those items I was tempted to buy myself. Goodbye Weird and good luck!

Though we bid farewell to a cherished piece, Wednesday is our new 'update' day and more items are coming in every week. A new knobling joins our little family - I call him 'The Clown'. One of the magnetic series, the Clown is sure to bring a smile to anyone who sees him. As always, we continue to add new inventory and improve the site.
The Clown
On that note, I would like to introduce our fifth Guest Artist! Known from hereon as 'Little Owl', she brings a collection of knitted goods to Coyote's Blessings. From a blanket to the smallest doily, each one was carefully hand-crafted for your enjoyment. Here are some samples from what she brings to our crew. This beautiful large doily in emerald colors dubbed "Emerald Dreams", and a knitted box created held together with wax. Check out the 'Guest Artists' section for the rest of Owl's wonderful collection.

Coming up:
Thursday Night Live! Come to downtown Mountain View (if you're in the area). This is the last of this summer's Thursday Night Live! events.

The General Store's New Home

After months of preparation, the Mountain View General Store's new home is ready! Their new website that is: Mountain View General Store. It is a clean and easy-to-read site. The pictures and store hours will be updated soon. It is currently open from 11am-8pm Wednesday through Sunday and noon-7pm on Tuesdays.

I updated our Recommended Links too. If you have not checked them out you should. We highlight local and amazing artists, great stores and other places to go / things to do.

Family Time

Welcome to August!

The last two days have been a cleaning frenzy around here. This morning we had a visit from my mama and her best friend, Darla. The cleaning / organizing madness was well worth it - the tasks needed to be done and now the place looks great.

Yes, our dolphin is named after Darla. Darla is an amazing person. She went away with a star window cling, destined to find a home in a forested cabin in Eureka to (hopefully) prevent birds from crashing into her cabin's front window. She also bought Buzz (the Toy Airplane) for her youngest grandson.

My mom had a good time admiring our new products as well as experiments we never intend to sell. She was happy to see the place to clean and picked up. Of course we didn't tell her what was in the closets. (Just kidding!... everything's actually in the garage >.>). Although she didn't buy anything, she did bring pastries, which is almost as good.

Between a multitude of praises, suggestions and a small business transaction it was a great morning. A good way to start the month.
